Nokia E72 QWERTY Phone

Espoo, Finland - Swift, slim and resourceful are three words that accurately describe the new Nokia E72, which was unveiled at the Nokia Connection event in Singapore today. Nokia's latest full QWERTY smartphone brings a rich mobile email and instant messaging experience right out of the box, making it the ideal device for people that want to be productive in both their personal and professional lives.

Building on the formula from the hugely successful Nokia E71, Nokia's best selling QWERTY device to date, this latest arrival in Nokia's Eseries family maintains essential elements of its predecessor, whilst still improving its capabilities in a number of areas. "Despite the outstanding market performance of the Nokia E71, we still continually look for ways to enhance the device," said Ilari Nurmi, Vice President at Nokia. "So we included the desktop like email experience from the Nokia E75 and gave it a new optical navigation key for more intuitive scrolling through menus, emails and fast panning of images. We also upgraded the camera to 5 megapixels and added a standard 3.5 mm audio jack."

On top of these developments, for the first time, owners will be able to set up instant messaging (IM) accounts provided by Nokia Messaging direct from the homescreen. In just a few steps, device owners will be able to connect to their favorite IM accounts such as Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk and Ovi, amongst many others.

These new IM features are complimented by Nokia's range of email solutions with a lifetime license for Nokia's mobile email and IM service, Nokia Messaging, as well as onboard clients for Mail for Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes Traveler. Accessing popular accounts such as Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, Windows Live Hotmail, Ovi Mail and thousands of other email service providers is simple through improved on-device email setup, with the same easy to use UI integrating all of the owner's corporate email accounts as well.

Performance improvements are evident throughout the user experience including faster Internet up- and downlink speeds. Other notable features which should make the Nokia E72 as popular as recent Nokia Eseries introductions include A-GPS and compass with integrated Maps, including lifetime walk and 10 days of turn-by-turn navigation if activated within the first three months. Conversations are also clearer with active noise cancellation, and a torch can be activated with a single press of the spacebar key. The office capabilities have been updated with a new version of Quickoffice, which delivers Microsoft Office 2007 compatibility as well as free version upgrades when new features become available.

The Nokia E72 is expected to begin shipping late in the third quarter of 2009 at an estimated retail price of EUR 350 before taxes and subsidies.

HTC Touch Pro2 review: Out with a pro

Amid talk of Android and would-be heroes we're about to revisit HTC on their hallowed PocketPC ground. Good things seem to come in pairs for the company while out-and-out upgrades are always good news for the user. With two jewels in the crown and two pros on the squad, HTC march towards PocketPC dominance and the Touch Pro2 looks like it has what it takes to lead the campaign.

HTC Touch Pro2 official photos

More powerful gear and more impressive shell than the original Pro, HTC Touch Pro2 is in charge of the armored unit, while the Diamond2 tackles the infantry.

PocketPC is definitely the HTC game but it sure isn't a one horse race. The list of prominent number 2's is perhaps about to be continued with an XPERIA. On the other hand, the launch of the Touch Pro2 is perhaps timed just right to beat another major headliner from the Symbian camp - the Nokia N97.

Anyway, that's just the background. The real thing is how the Touch Pro2 handles and performs. A number two can't be much of prophet we guess but a well-done upgrade can bring in enough profit.
Key features
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support and HSDPA 7.2Mbps
3.6" 65K-color touchscreen WVGA display
Five row full QWERTY side-sliding keyboard of brilliant ergonomics
Revamped TouchFLO 3D Home screen and gesture controls
Wi-Fi and built-in GPS receiver with A-GPS
Qualcomm MSM7200A 528 Mhz CPU and 288 MB DDR SDRAM
Dedicated graphics chip (64MB RAM reserved for graphics)
3.15 MP auto focus camera
Active stylus
Touch-sensitive zoom bar
Standard miniUSB port and Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP
microSD memory expansion
TV out
Teeter game aboard
Cool YouTube client
Excellent video playback
MS Office Mobile document editor
Opera 9.5 web browser
Main disadvantages
Considerable size and weight
Average sunlight legibility
No standard 3.5mm audio jack
Poor camera performance
No camera flash
No FM radio by default (can be enabled with unofficial third-party software)

Talking upgrade, the HTC Touch Pro2 takes a leap forward in screen terms pumping up both resolution and size. It inherits the original Touch Pro but stands on the shoulders of a TytN too. The return of the tilting screen will sure be cheered. Now, add the revamped and improved exterior and you've got upgraders by the balls.

Samsung M8920 12 megapixel

Yet another proof has come that Samsung are going to stop at nothing until they achieve market domination. Only a couple of days after they announced the 12 megapixel Samsung Pixon12 an image of a better equipped cameraphone surfaced. An anonymous tipster just sent us this photos of what he says is Samsung M8920.

The new handset will obviously come with a 12 megapixel camera, complemented by both LED and xenon flash units. The really hot part about the Samsung M8920 is that it also supports 3x OPTICAL zoom, so if they get the image quality right it might easily rival low-end and mid-range point-and-shoot cameras. To make the device even sweeter there go built-in GPS and Wi-Fi with DLNA support.

We are yet to see if Samsung M8920 will be one of the devices to be announced at the three simultaneous Samsung events in London, Dubai and Singapore next week. If that turns out to be true then we are looking at least two major announcements, since this isn’t the same handset whose X-ray photo is published as a teaser for the Samsung Unpack event.

Things start to get pretty hot at the multimedia top with the Korean company throwing everything but the kitchen sink in the battle. Fine with us, since the end-users are usually the ones who benefit the most on such occasions.

Update: As it seems the initial source of that photo sent to us by an anonymous tipster is in fact an online forum. Thanks to OhadM from the forum over at Pocket.co.il who made the original photo, we now even have more new info besides the photo itself.

The new M8920 cameraphone is not a smartphone, but instead uses the Samsung proprietary TouchWiz interface. There's a huge touchscreen on the other side that's not visible on that shot and the M8920 also comes with 8GB of integrated memory. All that high-tech features of course have taken their toll on the size of the thing and it surely is one extra large handset according to OhadM.

Unfortunately, it's still not clear whether the M8920 is the phone to be presented on 15 June or if this is a leak for a product that should come later on this year.
